coffee & pics

This past weekend my friend Hannah and I ran around town and took some pictures! I had a blast and wanted to share them with you! It was about 20 degrees outside - YIKES! Fear not, we still braved the cold and she got some sweet shots! Be sure to check out her etsy shop, she has some beautiful/cool stuff and she's having a sale!

My love for coffee is strong, y'all! Also, [disclaimer] we just picked up a stack of books, so I don't even know what's sitting in my lap!

Hannah dared me to stand on a frozen pond. I was terrified, but did it anyway!

Here's a close-up!

Graceful like a gazelle!

Hannah suggested I do a "yoga pose" - this is all I could muster, considering if I were to fall, I'd most likely fall into the frozen abyss.

Next, we went over to a top-secret location (not really, it's just hard to find). I loved this wall and was so glad Hannah shared it with me!

I hope this encourages you to get out and explore your city! You're sure to happen upon fun new places you didn't know existed, or just forgot about!

See ya Thursday,

what is this blog even about?

Happy Tuesday! I've been so overwhelmed with the comments, messages, texts and encouragement I've received regarding this blog! Y'all are amazing! And I am so thankful for your support!

I thought for today's post I'd fill you in, a bit, on what I'm thinking this little blog might look like, for the year 2015! One of the main reasons I put off starting a blog, for so long, was because I wasn't sure what I wanted it's main focus to be. I like so many different things and have so many interests that it was nearly impossible to narrow them all down to one or two things. That's when I discovered "lifestyle" blogs. I was so pumped when I realized, there are other people out there, just like me, that are interested in so many different things and they blog about all of them! So, if we're giving this blog a category, we will call it a Lifestyle Blog!

I will be blogging about the following: Jesus, food, coffee, DIY, health & wellness, everyday life, books, and more! I plan to post twice a week (maybe more, if something really exciting happens). I will post on Tuesday's and Thursday's to start out and then reevaluate in the coming weeks!

Again, I'm so thankful for you and your encouragement and support! Better than I could've ever hoped for!

See ya Thursday,

new year :: 2015

It's officially the new year! Woo Hoo! I love the new year. It's a fresh start, a clean slate, a new beginning!

This morning I woke up, promptly got in my car and drove to my nearest Starbucks, a mere 4 minutes from my house. I ordered this seasons usual, the Chestnut Praline Latte, and went on my merry way. Side note: If you've yet to try the Chestnut Praline latte, I suggest doing so! It's quite delicious. I returned home and began journaling. Let us pause here for a moment. To say that I came home and journaled is quite the accomplishment for me! I don't know if any of you out there are journalers (not a word), but I've tried to make myself one. However, It always starts the same - I go out, find a cute notebook and tell myself "alright, this time I'm REALLY going to start journaling. Every night I'm going to sit down and hash out the day, yada yada yada.." Then, somewhere around  day 4 or 5 I'd forget to journal because I'm too tired or have better things to do, so I fall off the bandwagon and be stuck in the same non-journaler (again, not a word) rut as before. However, I've come to realize the importance of keeping a journal and documenting my life, thanks to a series of conversations with two of my friends Beth and Jenny. We were on our way home from our dear Hannahbeth's wedding, last May when we got onto the topic of journaling! Jenny excitedly told us that she'd recently finished her journal. She'd been writing in the same one for the past several years and had finally written on the very last page! "How exciting!" I thought, as I imagined all of the things that journal must contain. All of the moments captured by pen and paper, all of the prayers, funny stories and testimonies. She went on to say she loves journaling because it's a way to "get everything out" (now, those may not be her exact words, but she said something to that extent). Now, I decided, after talking with Jenny, that I would start journaling. However, to forego the usual "journaling rut" I took the pressure off. I didn't set myself up to fail by saying "you must journal everyday for 30 minutes." I simply decided that I would journal when I felt like it. This sounds easy and un-regimented, however it has worked! I've filled nearly half a journal since May (2014), which is about 8 months worth, and I am quite proud of that! It's filled with moments and prayers, hard times, good times, quotes, scriptures, encouraging words and so much more! I love that I have a tangible thing that I can look back through in the years to come.

I say all this to encourage you! I want to encourage you to start something. What a better time than a new year to start that thing you've been wanting to do?! For me, it's this blog. I've wanted to start a blog for the past several years (and by several I mean 4 - yikes!) but for whatever reason, I haven't. I've come up with excuse after excuse for why I couldn't or shouldn't. Alas, this new year has me saying "forget you, excuses!" and saying "Hey Blog, let's see what happens..!" I have no idea what this year holds, but I am hopeful! I have no idea what this blog is going to shape up to be, though I do have ideas! If you're out there and you're reading this, thank you! I am glad we're on this journey together!

I also wanted to share this excerpt from my Joyce Meyer devotional; "The Confident Woman Devotional:, I thought it was so fitting for today and for this year:

"As was true of the twelve disciples, you are full of capabilities, gifts, and talent. God's enablement of His grace and presence is with you. So what are you doing with your life? Are you like the eleven disciples who stayed in the boat, or are you like Peter, who even when Jesus was passing by said, "Lord, I want to walk on the water with You!" Do you have a vision for you life  and want to do something greater than what you're doing? Are you going to just sit in the boat and shake and quake and watch the rest of the world go by, or will you be one of those rare individuals who jumps out of the boat and refuses to live afraid? It's up to you what you're going to do with your life. Fear is always going to come against you. But listen to Jesus' words: "Take courage! I AM! Stop being afraid!" It's time to step out and do the thing you desire to do."

Happy New Year! Here's to 2015 and the great things it holds!

Until next time - Holly
